Luz – Uptown

My name is Luz and I go by They/Them pronouns. Born and raised in the South Bronx, I am no stranger to the rhythm and diverse culture of this great city!  Currently I do freelance art focusing on Logo Designing, but If you asked 10 year old Luz who they wanted to be when they grow up, they would grab their stuffed animal and timidly say that they would be a veterinarian 🙂

My mother wanted my siblings and I to be fearless, humble and loving, especially when it came to animals!  Throughout my life we shared our household with a variety of pets.  We loved animals so much that we would even nurse baby birds back to health if we ever found one on the street! Loving and nursing animals came so naturally to me that I knew I wanted to pursue a career where I would help animals, one way or another!  After high school, I continued my studies to be a veterinary technician at a SUNY college, but personal issues at the time halted my career.  It wasn’t until years later that I got a chance to walk dogs full time at a doggy daycare facility, and even help run one!

Even before I had my lovely (and may I add, spoiled, pup) Tofu, entering into the dog walking field has simply been a blast.  You simply can’t beat the smiles that dogs have after a successful walk full of play, socialization and exploration (well maybe catching a break to just simply cuddle them until they have had enough!).  What’s more rewarding is the trust you build between the dog’s parents.  And don’t get me started with cats!  What’s not to love about a cat’s purring for attention and engaging in a fun play time session!

Living in NYC, you find yourself not having enough time in a day to provide the exercise, social skills and playtime that your pups deserve. That’s where I come in! With RuffCity, I get to be that trusting second hand you can rely on– not just to walk your dogs, but to take care of them as if they were my own when you’re away, build a strong bond, and show them the best life this city has to offer!
