Haley – Uptown

My name is Haley, and I’m an interdisciplinary artist and poet, originally from the South (AL+NC), who loves dogs, cats, sometimes rats, and almost everything about NYC.

In 2021, I finally made the big leap and became an inhabitant of the Big Apple. I decided I was going to grad school to become an art therapist. Halfway through my degree, I realized that I wanted to pursue being an artist first, and fold the therapeutic elements into my work. After all, making art and viewing art is an invitation for people to experience themselves from a different point of view.

In general, I am someone who does my best to love all beings, but I especially love dogs. From the time I was born, there were dogs in my house. I have pictures of myself standing beside my grandmother’s favorite chow chow, Cujo. In his case, that was a funny name for who he was — the most gentle of dogs, who protected his baby (me). He was my nanny and first best friend. I think because of my relationship with Cujo, I’ve always understood the close personal bonds that people can make with the animals who they love.

As a walker, I have experience with dogs of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments from the Great Dane to the Maltiepoo. As a dog owner, I have experience administering medication, caring for skin issues, fitting knee braces, and keeping up with cones. In my spare time, I like to watch movies, visit museums, practice yoga, and read for the book club that I recently started with my friends. Currently, I do not have any pets who live with me, so that will make these walks all the more special.

It’s a privilege to be a part of your dog’s life, and I can’t wait to meet them!

*Fun fact: My first ever trip to NYC was with my grandpa as a child, and we saw The Lion King on Broadway. Fittingly four-legged 🙂
