I’m Wren Hanks, and I recently moved back to NYC from New Orleans, where I was pursuing an MFA in Poetry and volunteering at the Audubon Aquarium (i.e. teaching kids about alligators and gars!). I’ve lived in New York on and off since 2008—it’s a fantastic city to be a writer, editor, and dog lover. When not walking dogs, I’m often organizing Brooklyn poetry readings or on a day trip to a wildlife center.

I love all animals—furry, scaled, and feathered—but dogs have always held a special place in my heart. My first dog was a Shetland Sheepdog named Bingo who I used to take for walks through the “wilds” of Beaumont, Texas on a pink leash. She was my best friend and ensured I was smitten with dogs for life! Although I can’t currently have a pup of my own, I keep busy with two rescue cats and two very finicky hermit crabs.

I’ve been a professional dog walker for two years and a camp counselor for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments as a doggie daycare associate. I believe our animal companions enrich our lives in so many ways, and my passion for their well-being is what brought me to RuffCity. Whether your furry friend is energetic, bashful, or cool as a cucumber, I know we’ll have a blast together!
